Akatsuki Records

It was a boring night in late 2017 when I discovered Akatsuki Records. I was scrolling YouTube and one of their videos just happened to come up by chance. Little did I know they’d end up being one of my favorite groups ever! Through context clues, you’ve probably extrapolated that Akatsuki Records is a band; however, what kind of band they are is a bit harder to explain. They are a doujin music group based on the Touhou series.

Basically, the Touhou series has long been known for having extremely high quality soundtracks. The games are made by a single man, and he releases absolute bangers on the OSTs of these games; because of the quality of the OSTs and the wealth of material from all the games, there’s a healthy ecosystem of bands and musical projects that focus on covering or rearranging the songs present in the Touhou series. These doujin groups are of varying degrees of quality, but for me, Akatsuki Records sits at the top. I had explored other doujin groups long before that fateful day I discovered Akatsuki Records in 2017. Of course, I still listen to these, but Akatsuki Records is special.

Stack. That’s really the whole story, just Stack. She has an incredible vocal range and stylistic variance in her performances. She’s right at home screaming in the super heavy songs, but also just as great in the soft and gentle songs. This great contrast is one of the reasons I find the group so endlessly captivating.

Wonderful! You won’t regret it! Akatsuki Records is popular amongst my friends too. It’s not a real hangout session unless Woocky Disconizer is played at least once. You may have noticed, but I’ve actually been maintaining my own personal “greatest hits” playlist of my favorite Akatsuki Records songs for a while now as part of the greater OshNet system. I have a great deal of bias, but I think it’s a great introduction to the group! I’ll link it here, along with my custom 88x31 button I made! Please check it out!
