For all my criticism of 343, I must admit, they did give us one wondrous thing: Halo Master Chief Collection. And what a joy it is. Halo Master Chief Collection is a big collection that includes Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, and 4 all in a single game. This is amazing for preserving these games, as it’s been released on Steam where everyone can play it. MCC includes PC and console crossplay and a slew of other features to improve the titles and offer unlocks universally between them. Something that gives me great hope for the future is that MCC also includes Steam Workshop support; fan-made mods have come out to great acclaim and the community is still quite lively in 2025. While MCC is a nostalgia piece, it’s actually presented well enough here that it’s more than just that. Even foregoing the nostalgia, this is a formidable online offering for 2025, even for those who’ve never played Halo before.
